Teaching Philosophy

Teaching is a profession that shares information, whatever knowledge, an idea or the ethics, to others. It is not aimed to teach students how to memorize, but rather to understand the concepts for further inspiration.

I enjoy so much on teaching. As a teacher, I should have a solid understanding of my teaching subjects. To arouse the interest of the students, I would like to look for other sources or references for my teaching preparations. It would be great that daily examples can be cited as references of the teaching matters to attract the attention of the students. As my experience of teaching undergraduates and postgraduates in laboratory courses, nowadays, most students do not care how things work instead they only want to get the solutions directly without any explanation. Nonetheless, the students always feel excited and fascinated by the fact that those subjects are happening in their daily lives. During the learning
teaching process, I do believe that collaborative group discussions, which give students time and space to think of the topics, share equal importance with understanding the fundamentals. Through the open discussions, the students may bring new insights or raise questions on the subject that have not been considered yet. In the meantime, as a teacher, I am also learning and rethinking the topic from different aspects, and these new thoughts may also inspire my future teaching ideas. It is really meaningful that I can keep learning from teaching others. In my belief, all students are capable of learning. Nevertheless, a good teacher should teach students in accordance with their aptitude. There is no unique teaching method that can fit all types of students. Thus, different teaching strategies should be adopted on various types of students in order to motivate their learning interest. As a teacher, I should keep a good and friendly relationship with my students. I do not think a teacher should be serious and fierce all the time. If a teacher is always serious and stubborn, students will be afraid of asking and discussing questions. My responsibility is to make students feel better about their learning progress rather than discourage them. I do believe that a positive learning atmosphere of the class mainly depends on the relationship between a teacher and students.

I am devoted to use my career to benefit students in a positive manner. Through teaching in a university, I can stay in the field I love. At the same time, I do share students my knowledge and ideas. With full of teaching enthusiasm and patience, I do think I would be a good teacher.
